Managing high blood sugar during cancer treatment

It’s important to manage your diabetes during cancer treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Radiation therapy, steroids, and some types of immunotherapy may impact your blood sugar levels. Hyperglycemia is a condition in which the amount of sugar in the blood is too high. Blood sugar that is too high can lead to a potentially life-threatening complication requiring hospitalization.
